Stonecrop – White for Every Occasion
White stonecrop is an elegant, understated flower that's perfect when you want to impress without going to too much trouble. Where the classic sedum turns pink and russet, white cultivars of Hylotelephium telephium such as 'Iceberg' and 'Stardust' open in clean ivory-white, with heads made up of hundreds of tiny star-shaped flowers. Set against the plant's fleshy, pale green foliage, the look is fresh and contemporary, and it works just as well in a minimalist arrangement as in a full country bouquet.
Texture Rather Than Perfume
Stonecrop has very little scent, which makes it a wonderful supporting flower for roses, lilies and scented herbs. It is one of the easiest cut flowers to look after: fresh water, a recut stem and a spot out of direct sun are all it needs, and because the leaves store moisture it forgives the odd forgotten vase. Stonecrop is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, so it's safe to have around pets.
